Hazardous Waste Project: Super Heroes
June 20-21
6:30 Artist Reception, 8 pm performance.

This is a quarterly (4 times/ year) Queer Performance Event. It highlights the work of Queer People of Color, Transgender and HIV + Artists.

The Project is called Hazardous Waste to remark on the treatment of marginalized communities in our society as well as the danger these artists pose to the mainstream, to small-mindedness, to stereotypes and status-quo. We feel it is our duty and joy to promote the work of Trans, POZ and POC communities. We hope that their voices are the driving voice behind MC’s Voice Factory.

4 Performers Explore the Same Topic, Engage in Conversation, and create an evening to remember......

Hazardous Waste Project (HWP) culminates seasonally in a show on both Friday and Saturday evenings at MC’s Voice Factory. But it extends beyond the show itself, as we seek to train the individual artists in self-promotion and production. They receive free (limited) rehearsal space for 1 month before each show and their performance is also free of charge to them. In exchange, they take on one area of the production of the show (tech, stage design, publicity and promotion, graphic design and imaging, stage managing, etc…). They identify which area they would like to learn about. If they are already well-seasoned in all of these areas, then they are responsible for training one of the other artists in an area of their choosing. With the support of MC’s volunteer staff, performers in the HWP are responsible for the overall success of the show. They are encouraged to take their show beyond the walls of MC’s and to apply to our various other programs, continuing on the path of self-determination as artists: one of the main goals of MC’s Voice Factory.
