The Mission of Mama Calizo's Voice Factory is to nurture the development of Queer Performers, Educators and Activists by providing them with Artist in Residence Programs and Arts programming. We believe that the process and product of creative activity have equal value, that all talent is worthy of development, and that artistic expression is essential to our community's health. June Is Hopping At The Voice Factory With The 5 Fabulous Shows

June 11 – June 13 at 9pm
for now......An interval of objects and puppets
created by
max and nimble-works

Lyrical and inventive. A gentle spectacle made of the most mundane of materials. On a few small, carefully crafted stages, puppeteers Sarolta Cump, Audrey Delgado, Harvey Rabbit and Asaf Zulah investigate the private, the interior and its recesses and explore the public, the exterior and the unsaid while a soundscape by Matt:Matt and Melody Jones, emanating from a variety of handmade instruments, evolves, collapses and recovers itself. As in her previous works such as killing mom, HOP and the sand child as well as her design and mask work with San Francisco's Theatre of Yugen, Max and nimble-works create a complete world that is both meditative and beguiling.

Tickets: $12-$20.

A Boy Called Noise

Written/Composed by Julia Steele Allen

Martyr, Coward, Fag, Lover, Son A gay teenager is murdered. A town tries to cover it up. A family struggles to respond. Only one will risk it all for justice.
Join Julia Steele Allen and Ray Rizzo for this original one-woman rock opera that charts the distance from tragedy to transformation through the experiences of Noise’s mama Cindy Lou, his Daddy One-Eyed Jack, his lover Fishbone, his sister “Hurricane Alicia” and his best friend, Beth-Ann, on the day of Noise’s funeral. Each of them struggles with their sudden loss and their sense of responsibility; haunted by what they could have done differently, and what they could still do now, to honor the memory of a boy called Noise.

June 19 & June 20
2 programs each night at 7 and 9pm.
Black and Tan Fantasy Festival
Featuring: Ramona Webb, Blue Buddha and Jair - The Literary Masturbator

Program 1 at 7 pm
New Orleans Anonymous

Written By: Ramona “Mona” Webb

New Orleans Anonymous is a dramatic comment on New Orleans pre and post Katrina. It uses interdisciplinary performance inspired by anonymously voiced interviews re-conditioned for the stage. Listen as the sassafras voice of reality tangles with the surreal character metaphors. This gumbo Ya Ya of a cast turns the stage into a brassy surprise of southern sophistication and conflict. Watch as Old New Orleans and New New Orleans get into a crawfish boil feud over who is better to lead the treasured Crescent City into its resurrection. Ramona as well as some of the members of the cast are from Louisiana, experienced Katrina, and view this piece as a prayer of healing for all who were affected.

My BFF, My Black Fat Fetish
Written and performed by Blue Buddha

Come on into Oral-Cul’s House, Be Bootiful! Oral-Cul is a curvy mama with an open heart and a sultry voice that guides the weary urban traveler. Like the “Eyes of Laura Mars” see what it means to be fat, black and queer in San Francisco all the while getting you wig worked. Now this round da way virtual reality shop keeps its doors open in the TL for those who need to see past Starbucks and American Idol and get to the real, real life, the real you. Been told that you would be cute if you lost some weight? Ever found some guy hot and nice but you couldn’t seem to get around the fat? Well, Oral-Cul will smack some sense into you with a big bootie, a song and a smile. Jump in her chair and take a ride and find out what’s missing.

NIA Every Monday at 6pm- Get your first class for free.
Additional classes are $10 at the door.
Founded in 1983, Nia is a nationally recognized fitness program within the fitness and wellness communities. Created by Debbie and Carlos Rosas, Nia's barefoot, grounded approach maximizes body efficiency and teaches you to consciously move in a gentler way. The result is a fusion of movement styles that are freer than any other dance-based exercise.
You'll experience the expressiveness of dance, the power and explosiveness of martial arts, and the wisdom of healing arts. Nia will awaken feelings and sensations throughout your entire body. The movement will allow your body to grow through self-expression, relax into comfort and strength, listen and trust your body, revitalize and uplift your spirit and emotions. Nia is for everyBODY

Zack has been dancing for almost thirty years (sometimes on the professional stage, sometimes in the amateur clubs) and considers NIA an ideal fusion of emotional expressivity, corporeal flexibility, and overall fitness. He infuses his Nia practice with extensive movement and performance experience, ranging from Release Technique to Kathak, and from postmodern dance to Grotowski-derived physical theater. In his pursuit of the 'joy of movement,' Zack stresses the relationships among breath, the body, and laughter, allowing space, movement and other bodies to tickle him. A strong believer in the interplay between performing arts and education -- which includes physical training, after all -- Zack holds a BFA from NYU, an MFA from UCLA, and a PhD from Stanford. His original performance works have been presented in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York and Paris.

We founded MCVF in order to provide a home for emerging and self-producing Experimental Queer/Activist Artists and Activists. Everyone involved is here because they are committed to the vision of creating sustainable models that encourage a lifetime of art making. We are dedicated to making a positive contribution to the S. F. alternative arts landscape, in educating through mentorship and breaking down social injustices. We are a community who collectively share tools necessary to help achieve these goals. We value and depend on volunteers, and on the volunteer mentality of supporting each other’s work, as well as the greater cause of self-determination for radical, queer, activist and experimental artists.
